
In support of Wiper Week, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser issued an official proclamation on the importance of maintaining good visibility while driving. The text of her proclamation is reprinted below.
WHEREAS, the Wiper Week initiative is a reminder to drivers to regularly inspect, maintain, and replace windshield wipers to ensure clear visibility and safe conditions for drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians; and
WHEREAS, properly functioning windshield wipers ensure the clear visibility that is essential for safe driving and play a crucial role in preventing accidents and ensuring roadway safety; and
WHEREAS, we join with Metro Motor, Vision Zero, the Washington Area Bicyclist Association, and other D.C. organizations in observing the first-ever Wiper Week to educate our communities about the role windshield wipers play in road safety and accident prevention; and
WHEREAS, to observe Wiper Week, participating organizations will give away and install up to 10,000 new windshield wiper blades to D.C. residents:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE MAYOR OF WASHINGTON, D.C., do hereby proclaim April 1-5, 2025, as "WIPER WEEK" in Washington, D.C.
